The Reality Blog Challenge

Are you ready Wealthy Web Writers?!

Because it is time to select our Reality Blogger (or possibly Reality Bloggers) for 2018. And, the best part… it could be you.

Our Reality Blogger is selected from among Wealthy Web Writer members by Wealthy Web Writer members to spend a year sharing their experience working toward their vision of web-writing success.

This is a big commitment. BIG. We’re talking an ongoing contract that lasts the whole year. You’ll be writing anywhere from twice a month to once a week. You’ll have to meet deadlines… take feedback with grace… and do your very best work. And you’ll have to be willing to be vulnerable. You’ll be sharing your successes and your failures… your high points and your moments of discouragement. That can be pretty scary.

But, you’ll have an ongoing paying gig. You’ll get to work with a professional editor (me) who is invested in your success. And you’ll have oodles of polished samples by the time you’re done. Also, this gig often leads to other gigs. I’ve seen that happen a lot!

So if you’re up for a big challenge, please keep reading, and we’ll dig into the nitty-gritty details.

There are two stages. The preliminary stage, which is open to any Wealthy Web Writer members who wish to participate. And the final stage which involves… well, the finalists.

The Preliminary Stage

To enter the Reality Blog Challenge takes just three steps.

First, post your intent to participate in the comments below. Why, you ask? We want to see you’re willing to put skin in the game. If you aren’t willing to shout your intent from the rooftops — or at least post one little sentence in the comments — then it’s going to be tough for you to share the details of your writer’s life week after week with your fellow members.

Second, write a post answering this two-part question: What is your biggest goal for 2018 and how do you plan to achieve it? You have a 500-word limit, including your headline. If you cross the 500-word mark, you’ll be disqualified… even if I love your work and it breaks my heart to do it.

Third, submit your post to me by October 9th — that link goes to my email address. I must receive it by 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time. Use RealityBlogChallenge-FirstNameLastName as your file name. Please submit .doc, .docx, .pdf, or .rtf files only. In your document, please include your name, your email address, and your phone number. Please follow these instructions to the letter… or you’ll be disqualified, again no matter how much it pains me to do so.

From the submissions, I and my fellow Wealthy Web Writer team members will pick five finalists.

The Final Stage

Each finalist will write a four-part series on the web-writing related topic of their choosing.

Each of these entries will be limited to 500 words.

Each entry will be published to the site over the course of six weeks. The finalists will be paid for their work.

At the end of six weeks, Wealthy Web Writer members will be asked to vote for their favorite choice to serve as our 2018 Reality Blogger. Depending on how the votes shake out, we will select the top one or two finalists as our Challenge winner.

Remember, this is a big commitment. Please join us only if you’re ready to enter into a year-long gig and are determined to do your very best work throughout the year.

I can’t wait to see those submissions… and to meet our next Reality Blogger.

Post your intent — and/or your questions — below.

Sincerely,
Heather Robson
Managing Editor, Wealthy Web Writer

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever worked so hard on a 500-word blog post in my life. I wrote, rewrote, had a friend look at it–twice–and revised it a little more. I even said a little prayer as I clicked the send button.

And now it’s out of my hands.

Wishing all the Reality Blog Challenge writers all the best. I know this would be a fantastic opportunity for any one of us.

Candice and Hayley will be tough acts to follow, that is for sure.

    Kind regards,
    Phoebe

  2. I had a problem with my Microsoft Outlook and had to copy and paste your email address into my registered email account. I used the Reality Blog Challenge in the subject line. Everything was submitted as instructed. I hope this doesn’t disqualify me….

    All the best,
