The Reality Blog: It’s A Girl! And A Crucial Life-Lesson …

Dear Web Writer,

She’s here!

My sweet little girl, Calla, is here at last. She debuted last week in the wildest labor experience imaginable.

Of course, it was joyous. Of course I learned a lot from it. And of course, I’m going to relate that experience to web writing! Here’s how.

Not A Minute To Spare

Pretty much everybody knows childbirth is unpredictable. So, aside from planning to use hypnosis again and hoping for a successful water-birth, Craig and I were happy to sit back and just wait for whatever happened.

The only thing we knew for sure was that this baby would come faster than our first baby. That birth experience took about eight hours.

Fast-forward to the morning of Calla’s birth. It went something like this:

6:00 a.m. – water broke
7:00 a.m. – contractions started
8:05 a.m. – dropped Quinn off at school on our way to the birthing center
8:20 a.m. – arrived at birthing center
8:26 a.m. – Calla shot out like a rocket in the birth tub

Needless to say, her birth was nothing like we imagined. Nor was it anything I ever could have dreamed up. And I’m pretty sure we couldn’t have cut it any closer..

  • Congratulations, Mindy!!! So happy to hear of Calla’s safe arrival. And you seem to have recovered quickly, too. Get some rest! God bless your family of four!

  • Congratulations! She’s beautiful. Glad you made it in time to the birthing center. (As a copywriter, you’ve learned to be very deadline conscious.)

  • Congratulations Mindy!! She is a beautiful baby girl. Sounds like it was a whirlwind day; get some rest. (I say that as a Nana of 7 grandkids)

    • Wow, seven grandkids! I’ll take your advice then — you certainly know what you’re talking about!

  • Congratulations Mindy and Craig! Can’t wait to see Calla in one of your videos. Take care and enjoy your new baby.

    • Thanks so much! We absolutely will — and I’ll give her a “feature shot” soon!

  • All the best to you and your family. That’s a gorgeous baby! And Calla is such a pretty name. Love to all.

  • Congratulations! Unbelievable birth story! My new grandbaby was born April 2 after 2 1/2 days of labor. My very athletic daughter and I thought it would go a little easier! I love the name Calla! There are so many pretty new names.

    • Thank you! Your daughter must be an incredible athlete with that kind of endurance, wow! Congratulations on your new granddaughter — how special!

I’m a big fan of calla lilies, which inspired the name. It’s funny though — here in New Mexico, people keep pronouncing in Ky-ya. Never saw that coming. 🙂

  • FUNtastic! oh my gosh, you must be over the moon – congratulations and all the best – I am a fan of yur writing, you are a great inspiration! thank you
