Motivate Yourself Now: Fast Track Your Progress by Timing Everything You Do

stopwatch_with_technology

Dear Web Writer,

Ever feel like you’re in over your head with writing-to-do lists?

I’ve been there a LOT over the past three years. It’s where you’re overwhelmed by the opportunities, the projects, the ideas … the sheer POSSIBILITIES that come hand-in-hand with this career …

So you wind up getting nothing done.

I’ve tried the Gene Schwartz technique of working in 33-minute super-bursts. That’s where you set your timer for 33.33 minutes and focus on a single task and nothing else. When the timer dings, you take a short break and then put in another 33.33 minutes on a different project.

That technique is effective when I’m under major pressure to meet a deadline and have to pull out all the stops.

But I’ve never been able to make that technique work on a regular day when there’s a lot on my plate but no looming deadline.

Thank heavens, there’s something else out there to fill the void. It’s called Toggl.

  • I listened to a webinar by Mindy two days ago that mentioned Toggl. I used it yesterday and what a difference! I was oddly focused on my tasks the whole time and managed to write a lot more than usual. I actually wrote (first draft) 3 personal blog articles in the same time I usually accomplish — nothing. Thank you Mindy for this suggestion it has made a tremendous difference in just one day! Now I am actually ahead of schedule instead of behind.

  • Mindy,
I’m all ears. I know what you mean about the sheer possibilities and getting nothing done. I mean, it’s not that I’m getting NOTHING done but not nearly as much as I know I can. I’m going to try toggl.

You folks are doing great work. Learning so much. Thanks!
