Reality Blog: 5 Things You Should Know

Rear view of business person in ready position on start line to compete

While flipping radio channels this morning on my carpool run, a DJ caught my attention with a bit called 5 Things You Should Know. It was a quick rundown of the morning’s top news items.

Some of them were things that were good to know. And others I could have done without hearing…

But the title of the segment struck me as a useful way to organize some of my thoughts about my journey as a freelance copywriter.

There are most definitely at least five things I had to learn in order to start my business…

… without these things, it’s tough, if not impossible, to start and run a successful business.

So I present to you…

5 Things You Should Know to Start and Build Your Freelance Copywriting Business

  1. How to write copy. The first and most obvious thing anyone needs to know in order to become a copywriter is how to write copy. If you’re new to the copywriting scene, there’s a wealth of information and training out there. Some of it’s free. Some is not. Find what works best for you to get a solid foundation.

Start with the basics… The Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting is where I got my start. The Accelerated Program will teach you everything you need to know to write persuasively and be a successful copywriter.

  2. What kind of copy to write. The second thing you should know is what kind of copy you want to write.

  • Thanks for the great tips, Tracy. I had been driving myself crazy these last few months trying to come up with just one niche. Like you, I have many interests – many of which could become a writing path for me. I decided to just pick one and see where the path takes me. If it goes bust, I’ll work on another one. But I think this one is where I truly need to be (Spirituality and self-help). It’s a pretty broad arena and I know I’ll need to narrow down further as I do my research. But I’m incredibly excited to be in this process.

    Have a fabulous day!

    • Congratulations, Camille! I think that’s a great niche and it’s huge! I have a self-help folder in my Gmail inbox… maybe it’ll contain something you wrote one day soon. 🙂
