Roving Report: About Us Practice Assignment Review

Serious Businessman In The Office Examines Documents With Infogr

“Reviews have become one of my favorite sessions to do.”

That’s how Heather Robson, Wealthy Web Writer’s Managing Editor, kicked off this webinar review of the latest round of Practice Assignments.

She loves to see everybody’s work and noted that members get very creative with the Practice Assignments. If you haven’t participated in one of Wealthy Web Writer’s Practice Assignments yet, it’s a great way to practice your skills and get feedback from an expert.

Each month, Heather randomly selects as many submissions as she can review in an hour. If you do submit and yours isn’t chosen, you can also ask for feedback in the Facebook group. Keep submitting, though, and yours will likely be chosen in the future.

In this session, Heather reviewed five submissions for the About Us Page assignment.

About the About Us Page

The About Us Page is complicated. “There are no hard and fast rules,” Heather explained, “and there are a lot of different approaches. There are no wrong ways to write an About Us Page, but there are some that are more effective.”

The Brief

Heather reviewed the brief for the assignment. “Because this is a fictional assignment,” she reminded us, “you have creative license. Normally you would interview the doctor, but in this case, you can make things up.”

She also explained that the assignment’s 500-word limit is completely arbitrary, to make it easier for her to review submissions. There is no word limit for a real-life About Us Page.

Susanna Perkins

Susanna was dragged back, kicking and screaming, into freelancing after losing her job in the banking meltdown in March, '09. One 3-month stint in an appalling temp job persuaded her to get serious about establishing herself as web writer. In March, 2012, she moved to a small town in Panama with her husband and three small dogs. After enjoying the writer's life in the culture of "buenas" and "mañana" for 2-1/2 years, she's returned to the US. At least for now.
