Reality Blog: One Third of The Year Is Over… Time to Hand in My Report Card

With a third of this year already gone, you might be wondering if I’m on track to reach my goal as the 2019 Reality Blogger.

And if not, what am I doing about it?

What have we done to grow our Top Wire Traveller brand, and what can you take from this to help grow your Money-Making Website?

Looking back, it’s easy to add the numbers. The more difficult part is determining if you’re on the right track. You’re trying new ideas on your Money-Making Website, but are they getting results?

We’ll look at the numbers first, then talk more about things we’ve done to hopefully keep our income trending up.

The Raw Truth

You might remember I set a goal for our Money-Making Website to generate an income stream of $3,000 per month by December 31, 2019. This somewhat lofty goal seemed a long way off way back in January.

And I did say I was accountable to you this year. So let’s have a look at some numbers. Here is our monthly income:

January = $1,050
February= $1,535
March = $1,120
April = $1,230

Hmmm, not too bad I suppose. In this article, we looked at our average income for last year. It was about $800 per month. So far this year, we’re averaging about $1,235 or a 50% increase compared to last year.

That’s more like it!

Now, here’s an interesting fact. Over 90% of our income so far this year has come from income earned as a direct result of our website. What do I mean by this? Well, this is where we approach a company under the Top Wire Traveller brand.

Or even better, it’s when a company approaches us because of our Money-Making Website. I’ll talk more about this next time.

So, where has the other 10% come from? Google AdSense and affiliate marketing.

A Slow Grind

Let’s assume you’ve chosen high-value affiliates and you’re using AdSense properly. So everything’s in place and you’re giving yourself the best chance of success. The next three steps are… traffic, traffic, and more traffic.

You will only ever earn income from affiliate marketing and AdSense if you have traffic. And the only way to increase your income is to increase traffic. It sounds obvious, I know.

You simply need to do the hard work, bend your back, and keep working on increasing your traffic. There’s no other way… unless you’re prepared to spend bucket loads of money on paid advertising. It’s a slow grind.

But thankfully, we’re seeing some positive signs.

  • Great to hear these details, Andrew! And big congrats on making progress on your goals — I know you’ll get there before the end of the year if you keep at it.

    I remember seeing your video where you guys cleaned your tarp. It was surprisingly entertaining! And that personal touch really does make a difference.

    I’d love to hear more about what you mean by income you earn from approaching companies directly – it’s something I’m thinking about a lot as I’m working on my running website. I plan to do affiliate links, but also am thinking it will be a big boost to my freelance writing site (also on running). But I’m sure there are other methods, too …

    In any case, my hope is that it helps me not spend so much time chasing freelance clients, and that they’ll start coming to me! How great would that be?!

      Thanks for your kind words We’ll get there!

      Funny you mention the tarp video. A few people have commented on it… I wish I knew why! There’s something appealing, but I’m not sure what. Maybe it’s natural, I’m not sure.

      Regarding income earned by approaching companies directly. All will be revealed next time. Sorry, you’ll have to wait! In a nutshell, it’s a consequence of building relationships with related businesses. Once they get to know your work, can see you’re serious and won’t disappear overnight, they tend to be more receptive to proposals from you.

      I believe you’re right. Your MMW will definitely help you gain clients, since it’s in a related niche. It might take a year or two but you’ll see the results eventually. I know you’re committed to making this all work, so you will see the results. You just have to keep plugging away.

      And yes, B.N. should most definitely be an official term!
