Reality Blog: 7 Ways to Breathe New Life Into Old Content

Update Window Pop up Alert Concept

Do you pay much attention to your old content? Do you go back through and update content, re-post to social media, and add new keywords?

If not, you could be missing out on a lot of organic traffic.

When search engines crawl your website, they pay attention to updated posts.

So let’s look at seven ways you can breathe life back into your old content.

But first, should you concentrate your efforts on the winners or the losers?

The Unloved and Forgotten

Google Search Console is nothing if not brutally honest. Have a look at your posts, and pay particular attention to impressions and click-through rates (CTRs).

In case you’re wondering, impressions are the number of users who’ve had the post presented to them in a Google search. CTR is the percentage of people who clicked on the link.

No doubt you’re proud of the top ten, with their impressive impression and CTR figures. And rightly so. But what about the posts with few impressions and zero CTRs?

Those are the unloved and forgotten posts on your website. The ones hidden away in a dark corner of your website, languishing in their loneliness.

These posts (highlighted in red) are dead in the water. They need urgent attention. The other pages listed there are noise.

They’re also an opportunity to grow your organic traffic.
