Reality Blog: Steadily Building a Passive Income… and a Plan for 2020

Hand holding a piggy bank.

In early January 2019, I set a goal of building passive income — generating an income stream of $3,000 per month by December 31, 2019.

So… how did I do? And what’s my goal for 2020?

The Results Are In!

A summary of earnings from Top Wire Traveller for 2019.

So there you go. Close, but not quite. An average for the year of $2,525 per month. Simply put, I fell short.

(Are you wondering what “income earned as a direct result of our website” is? Go here for more details.)

Am I down, disappointed, or upset? No, not really. You see, there’s a few reasons why I fell short… no, not excuses!

  • January-April dragged us down, the year started slowly.
  • But then we had a great May-August.
  • September-December, we did okay. But we were distracted with downsizing… selling our house and buying something smaller. This took way more time than expected. I simply didn’t have any time to chase leads or to work on our Top Wire Traveller brand.

What positives can we take from this?

Good Signs for the Future

I’m actually really positive about the future earning potential of Top Wire Traveller. Everything’s trending in the right direction. Let’s look in more detail.

Trending Up

Lots of peaks and troughs, but the trend looks good!

As you can see, monthly income varied a lot. No surprises there, that’s business! However, the black trendline is what’s most important… and it’s trending up nicely.

Is it real though?
