This week I’ve been thinking a lot about opportunities that smack you in the face when you least expect it. Not because I really wanted to, but because I’ve been smacked with opportunities four times. And being open to opportunity can lead to surprising successes.
First there’s the little matter of my latest 21-day challenge. For this month, I’d set a couple of seemingly reasonable goals:
First, pitch five prospective clients for the big-ticket item on my Money-Making Website.
Second, publish a package pricing guide to my copywriting website.
Good Plan – Didn’t Quite Work
Now, I’m not saying that the challenges didn’t work out this month, either. I did make a lot of progress on both sites.
In Princess YellowBelly (our quilt-focused Money-Making Website) we broke an in-house record for finishing a quilt, putting it up on the website, and creating two videos within a month! Overall, I kept up with our publishing schedule really well. But I didn’t send out any pitches for our big offer. That might have been a blessing in disguise, though — more on that in a minute.
As for the copywriting site… well, that’s when two similar opportunities made things really interesting.
All Work and No Play Makes Jill a Dull Girl
One thing I struggle with is forgetting to have fun and live my writer’s life. So when on Sunday — usually my one day to sleep late and read in bed — I got smacked with an opportunity for FUN, I jumped at it!
A loud knock woke me up, followed by my brother sticking his head in and asking, “You want to come white-water rafting?”
I’ve always wanted to go rafting, but it’s never worked out, and this would be the last chance this year. So I said yes.
