Reality Blog: 8 Things You Need to Succeed Next Year

Whether you’re a complete newbie at copywriting who’s just discovered the amazing AWAI community or you’ve been part of this family for a while — you undoubtedly want something more out of your writer’s life in the next year.

If you’re just starting, you want to land a paying client or two.

If you’ve been at it longer, you might want more high-value clients or more free time. You might be ready to quit your day job or cut your hours. Maybe you want to move to a better part of town or a new state, or just travel more and maybe stay in nicer hotels while you’re at it.

Whatever your “it” is, you want to be in a better place when this time of year comes around again and you’re facing 2023.

To do that — to get from here to your better there in just a year’s time — there are some things you need to succeed. I’ve identified eight vital success elements. And I do mean vital. These aren’t luxuries, options, or things that can be put off for another time.

1. A Big Dream

No matter where you are in your copywriting journey, you should always have a big dream for your life. Where will you be, what will you have, where will you live, how will you travel in five years or 10 years?

  • Will you be able to help your grandchildren through college?
  • Will you move into a mansion in the Caribbean?
  • Will you start a mission-based charity in your old neighborhood or a foreign country?

Whatever you most want, that’s your dream… and your dream is what gives your copywriting work purpose. So, it’s important to consider that big picture, make it as clear and concise as you can, and refer to it when considering a new client… or facing the temptation to give up on copywriting during a bad day.
